Today i heard a story that touched my heart. It goes something like this (modified version by me =>)…
“There was a rich man who was dressed in branded clothes and lived in luxury everyday. At his gate laid a beggar with rotting skin and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dog’s came to lick the beggar’s rotting skin. But the rich man did not give the beggar any food.
The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to heaven. The rich man also died but he went to hell and was tormented there. The rich man looked up and saw the beggar in heaven. Thus, he called to the heavens, saying ‘Have pity on me and send the beggar to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because i am in agony in this fire.’
But the heavens replied, ‘Son, remember that when you were alive you received your good things, while the beggar received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Besides, those in heaven cannot cross into hell, nor can those in hell enter heaven.’
The rich man answered, ‘Then i beg you to send the beggar to my family. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
Heaven replied, ‘They have those who are alive to warn them. Let them listen to them’
‘No, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Said the rich man.
‘If they do not listen to those who are alive, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’
This story serves as a reminder that when we are alive we should make full use of the blessings God gave us to bless those who are less fortunate than us. God expects more from those whom He showers more blessings upon. I believe all of you who are reading this blog now are considered ‘rich men’. So let’s do our part and be kind to those who are less fortunate around us. Do not regret not giving when you no longer have the chance.
Another warning for those who have yet to believe that Jesus Christ saved us from the torments of hell: Please please seriously consider accepting Jesus as your personal saviour before it is too late! At least listen to what Christians have to say about Jesus before you decide whether to believe. I sincerely hope to see you guys in comfort in heaven than in agony in hell. Think about it.
The clock is ticking. We do not know when our life on earth is going to end. Make full use of the time before its too late.
